Propagation

For those of you that have worked me before on VK IOTA DXpeditions, you would pretty much know where I’m going to be and how to get in the log.

The location of the operating site is on top of the island and so there is an unobstructed view of the entire world and I’m using omnidirectional vertical antennas. So you don’t need to worry if I’m beaming to your location or not. Its a similar situation to VK5CE/6 OC-243 and ZL9A OC-286.

As with my previous VK IOTA DXpeditions, I’m aiming to work 60% Europe, 25% Asia and at least 10% North America. I will be asking Europe and Asia to stand by at certain times to give North America a chance as the openings tend to be short and not as good. There will also be some times during the European openings that I’ll be asking for “United Kingdom and Scandinavia only” to give northern Europe a chance.

I’m on the island for a shorter time than usual and so I don’t intend to sleep. If I’m not on the bands then it means no bands are open. Fingers crossed I can stay on a band for the whole 2 days and work over 2000 stations.

I may not have internet access on the island and so I’ve gone through the propagation forecasts and used recent band conditions to give people an idea of what band I’ll be on. 

On 15m, 17m, 20m and 40m I will be on SSB and on 30m I will be on PSK63 (I find this better than RTTY for weak signals). I will not be on CW, I have only just begun learning CW and I work full time. So I have very limited time to practice, I hope to try a little bit of CW in DXpeditions late this year.
